Course & elevation
Cowtown is a rolling loop with the hills concentrated through the middle of the race, roughly miles 9–18, as the course climbs through downtown. It’s a runnable, scenic course rather than a flat speedway — the mid-race grades keep it from being a pure PR layout. The bricks of the Stockyards are an early highlight.
Key moments
- Mile 6Run the brick streets of the historic Fort Worth Stockyards.
- Mile 8–9Main Street straightaway and the climb up toward the courthouse and Sundance Square.
- Mile 9–18The hilliest stretch — rolling grades through the city; run by effort.
- Mile 23Onto the Trinity Trails for the final push to the finish.
Pacing strategy
Run the rolling middle miles by effort and resist pushing the downtown climbs around miles 9–18. A controlled, even approach leaves enough in the tank for the Trinity Trails finish.

Fueling & hydration
Aid stations roughly every 2 miles with water and sports drink. The rolling terrain breaks rhythm, so keep a steady gel schedule and fuel ahead of the mid-race hills.
Weather
Late-February Fort Worth is typically cool at the start (often mid-40s°F) and frequently clear, though humidity can run high.
