Course & elevation
Ogden falls about 1,000 feet net from a high mountain start down to downtown, but the drop stays under Boston’s 1,500-foot adjustment threshold, so it’s a legitimate, penalty-free qualifier. The first miles ease through the Eden valley, the middle flattens past Pineview Reservoir, and the steepest descent comes late through Ogden Canyon before the finish on historic 25th Street.
Key moments
- Mile 1–8Gentle descent through the Eden valley — runnable and relaxed; bank nothing.
- Mile 9–17The course flattens alongside Pineview Reservoir — hold goal effort.
- Mile 18–24Steepest drop through Ogden Canyon — quick turnover, save the quads.
- Mile 25–26.2River parkway into the finish on historic 25th Street.
Pacing strategy
Stay patient on the gentle early descent and keep effort even — the steeper canyon miles come late, exactly when fresh quads pay off. The sub-1,500-foot drop means even pacing yields a fast, fully Boston-legal time.

Fueling & hydration
Aid stations roughly every 2 miles with water and sports drink. The cool, dry mountain air masks sweat loss — drink on schedule and keep gels coming through the flat reservoir miles.
Weather
Mid-May in northern Utah is mild but variable — a cold mountain start (often 30s–40s°F, with fire barrels at the line) warming as you descend; afternoon spring rain is possible.
